EMIG 2016 Review
July saw two renditions of our skills workshop – Clinical Skills for Emergency Medicine
June saw a one off well attended toxicology workshop
Thanks to A/Prof Gunja for organising this session:
May 10th and 11th 2016 saw 2 installments of the “Pre-hospital and Retrieval Medicine” Workshop with Dr Harrison, Dr Cheesman and Senior Paramedic Brian Parcell.
April the 27th saw our medical students present “Not so Grand Rounds” an alternative to the grand rounds proper with an Emergency Medicine Spin
March 2016 brought us the first Emergency Medicine Interest Group (EMIG) workshop of the year. The first session was on inflight emergencies.

Background – The Emergency Medicine Interest Group (EMIG)
- Based at The University Of Sydney Faculty of Medicine Western Clinical School (Westmead)
- Unique group in Australia and New Zealand
- The group was formed in early 2008 by Daniel Bunker & George Pappas
- Since then the group has organised scores of events and activities to further knowledge and clinical skills with teaching on topics relevant to Emergency Medicine
- There are opportunities to meet many of the Emergency Department staff and connect into the department’s activities including teaching and research
- 2015 – The Tasmanian Branch of EMIG opens

Events for 2015:
- On Monday the 16th of February – year one ‘informal’ meet and greet and pizza – 4.30pm till 5.30pm in the Westmead Medical Student Common Room.
- On Wednesday 18th of February we had a second Meet and greet – again informal and mostly aimed at the new year 1s – again in the 4.30pm till 5.30pm in Med Student Common Room
- On Wednesday the 25th of February we had our inaugural Critical Care Careers Workshop

Next Events – Likely 22nd and 29th of July at Westmead
The disaster workshop will likely now be on 24th of July (wednesday)…
There will be two up coming events
– NOT SO GRAND ROUNDS – next Wednesday at Westmead 4pm in the Lecture Theatres
– PRE HOSPITAL WORKSHOP – 30th of June and 1st of July at 4pm at Westmead
