May 10th and 11th 2016 saw 2 installments of the “Pre-hospital and Retrieval Medicine” Workshop with Dr Harrison, Dr Cheesman and Senior Paramedic Brian Parcell.

April the 27th saw our medical students present “Not so Grand Rounds” an alternative to the grand rounds proper with an Emergency Medicine Spin

March 2016 brought us the first Emergency Medicine Interest Group (EMIG) workshop of the year.   The first session was on inflight emergencies.

Background – The Emergency Medicine Interest Group (EMIG)

  • Based at The University Of Sydney Faculty of Medicine Western Clinical School (Westmead)
  • Unique group in Australia and New Zealand
  • Since then the group has organised scores of events and activities to further knowledge and clinical skills with teaching on topics relevant to Emergency Medicine

Events for 2015:

  • On Monday the 16th of February – year one ‘informal’ meet and greet and pizza – 4.30pm till 5.30pm in the Westmead Medical Student Common Room.
  • On Wednesday 18th of February we had a second Meet and greet – again informal and mostly aimed at the new year 1s – again in the 4.30pm till 5.30pm in Med Student Common Room
  • On Wednesday the 25th of February  we had our inaugural Critical Care Careers Workshop

    1. Looks like the nxt meeting will be in mid June…. As soon as any dates are finalised details will be advertised in the clinical school, on the Facebook page and here!

  1. There will be two up coming events
    – NOT SO GRAND ROUNDS – next Wednesday at Westmead 4pm in the Lecture Theatres
    – PRE HOSPITAL WORKSHOP – 30th of June and 1st of July at 4pm at Westmead

  2. Summary about EMIG 2017

    The EMIG group is run by students for students
    Topics covered are nominated by the students

    Events are free and there is no need to pay a membership fee
